Medford City Council President Richard Caraviello
Announces Re-Election Bid

Proven Experience, Progressive Ideals, and Responsive Constituent Service Shape Agenda

Council President Richard Caraviello today announced his campaign for re-election to another term on the Medford City Council. Caraviello, currently in his tenth year as councilor, has served in numerous leadership positions on the Council, including three terms as President, and was first elected in 2011. In addition to his present role as President, he also serves as chairman for the Committees on Military & Veteran’s Affairs, the Ad Hoc Lawrence Memorial Hospital Committee, and serves as the Council’s liaison to Tufts University.

“I’m honored and privileged to have served the people of Medford for the past ten years, an era of unprecedented growth and resurgence in our community. I am proud of my track record of bridge-building and consensus minded collaborative leadership, effectively working with three different mayoral administrations to get the job done. I enthusiastically announce my candidacy for reelection to the Medford City Council, and I look forward to serving with distinction for another term in office. I remain as energized and committed for this responsibility as my first day in office,” said Caraviello.

Caraviello has been active in the community for many years, having served on the of the Medford Chamber of Commerce as its former president and executive director, he also was past president of the Medford Kiwanis, a dedicated volunteer at the Mystic Valley Food bank, and was Medford’s Youth Hockey President, among numerous other charitable endeavors.

While Councilor Caraviello has made a reputation as an experienced pragmatist and steady voice of reason throughout his tenure on the Council, he has often supported and been at the forefront of progressive forward thinking initiatives that the City has undertaken in the last decade. By all accounts, Caraviello is seen as being the driving force for the funding and establishment of a new state-of-the-art library and media center, now in its final stages of completion. He also played very important roles in the construction of a new police station, educational opportunities for our public school children, transit-orientated economic development, and long term capital investment in upgrading and modernizing our public safety and public works infrastructure, among many other systemic improvements. Caraviello, is also widely recognized as a strong and unwavering supporter of our senior community.

In closing, Caraviello pledged to “continue my core political philosophy; working directly for the people. I’m involved full time in this responsibility, and this job is not a stepping stone for some higher office. It’s my life’s passion is to be your Medford city councilor. While we have achieved a lot in the last ten years, there’s a lot more to accomplish, and with your help, we can go even further!”

I want to warn others about Jaime Mota, a local handyman. Beware! I hired him to install a 1/2 bath in my home and he has left me with a mess that is going to cost almost $14,000 to repair. All of the plumbing he installed is "illegal," to quote the master plumbers I have consulted with. They will have to open walls to repair the shoddy work he did. He took 9 months and left me with an upstairs with gouged hardwood floors, scratched furniture, and a bathroom that must be completely removed and reinstalled. I am taking him to Small Claims Court in hopes of some form of justice.

Waste Management dies a good job for Medford. I’m sure they are not the cheapest contractor, but they are reliable. There are plenty of issues that need attention in Medford, but our trash removal isn't one of them. If the Mayor thinks getting a cheaper contract is worth consideration, maybe she should realize you may get cut rate service, for a cut rate agreement. Get rid of the outside Parking contract, and leave the trash removal with WM.

Sweet Sisters

Sisters share a special bond – supporting each other as best friends, playmates, and second mothers when one of them needs a guiding hand…or paw. Kitty Connection, a no-kill animal rescue organization based in Medford and providing adoptions throughout Greater Boston and the North and South Shores, currently has two lovely grey tabby sisters in need of a home. These two cats are described below as a unit, because they are a closely bonded pair that shouldn’t be separated. Please consider adopting and keeping this furry family together.

Mia and Tucker

Three-year-old Mia and Tucker have so much fun together – getting the “zoomies” and running around with their toys, chasing and playing with each other, and vying for the attention of their foster caregivers. Mia is a little shy but will warm up once she gets to know you. Tucker is more outgoing and trusting – maybe due to the trust she has put in her sister since day one. You see, Tucker is cross-eyed, but she has adapted to it and does just fine. She and Mia are inseparable. When they aren’t playing, they are cuddling, snuggling, and napping curled up together on the couch. These sisters are ready for their forever home with a kind-hearted adopter who will make sure they have what they always need – love, safety, and each other.

Like all Kitty Connection adoptees, Mia and Tucker are spayed and have had rabies and distemper vaccines. They have tested negative for the Feline Leukemia and Feline Immunodeficiency viruses. If you’re interested in adopting them or any other available cat or dog, please visit our website (www.kittyconnection.net) and send a completed pre-adoption application to kc@kittyconnection.net.
