ARLINGTON, MA — A native has been chosen as the new voice heard throughout Boston Logan International Airport.
Christopher Donisi won the Massachusetts Port Authority's "Voice of Logan" contest, with Massport CEO Rich Davey announcing the winner Thursday, Nov. 5, on "Billy & Lisa in the Morning" on Kiss 108. Donisi, a pipefitter who grew up in East Arlington, will record public service announcements that will be broadcast throughout the airport's terminals. The new announcements are expected to begin welcoming travelers in mid-November.
"Thank you so much for all the support and I am so humbled by the amount of people that voted for me and put me here !!" Donisi said in a statement. "I won't let you Down !!"
More than 6,000 people submitted auditions for the competition, which was narrowed to eight finalists. Public voting ran from Saturday, Oct. 24, through Wednesday, Oct. 28, with more than 35,000 votes cast. The live audition score made up 80 percent of each finalist's final total, while public voting accounted for the remaining 20 percent.
Donisi entered the competition after his mother encouraged him to audition. The eight finalists were announced Monday, Oct. 19, during an appearance with Gov. Maura Healey and Davey on Kiss 108. The other finalists included Meagan Lewis-Michelson of Malden, Phyllis Thibodeaux Beach of Mattapan, Alex Marcin of Chelmsford, Ashley Cook of Lynn, Samantha Edwards of Boston, Max German of Dorchester and Kristin Ingala of South Dennis.
The competition initially called for up to five finalists, but the field was expanded following the response. The official contest rules were updated Thursday, Oct. 8, to allow up to eight finalists to advance to a live audition. Massport launched the contest Monday, Sept. 14, giving Massachusetts residents age 18 and older until Sunday, Oct. 4, to submit a video audition. Contestants were required to record themselves reading a provided script and upload the video on the contest website, along with a brief statement explaining why they should be selected.
Approximately 43 million travelers pass through Logan each year, and Donisi is expected to record greetings along with information about airport concessions and ground transportation options.
Donisi now lives in Burlington.
