Arlington Hones In On Next Police Chief

ARLINGTON, MA — The town expects to hire a permanent police chief by November, according to YourArlington. It will enlist the help of an outside vendor during the selection process, which will be open only to Arlington officers.

Previously, only captains were eligible, but the town removed the police chief role from the Civil Service system earlier this year, YourArlington reported. Requirements include a master's degree in criminal justice, law enforcement, public administration or a related field; 10 years of progressively responsible experience and five years of increasingly responsible command experience.

Juliann Flaherty has served as the acting police chief since January after Chief Frederick Ryan retired.
