Arlington Man Dies from Injuries Sustained in New Year's Day Crash

A 50-year-old Arlington man died Saturday, Jan. 3, from injuries he sustained in an early morning crash on New Year’s Day, according to authorities.
James McLaughlin was driving an SUV on Pleasant Street in Arlington at about 1:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 1, when the vehicle left the roadway, near the curve in the road at Lakeview Street, and struck a tree, according to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office. Two passengers in his vehicle received minor injuries.

“This vehicle left the road, went onto a sidewalk and struck a tree with such force that the tree was knocked over,” Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said in a statement. “The SUV’s airbags were deployed and first responders had to take out the vehicle’s seats to remove the driver.
“The investigation into what caused this accident will look at the vehicle’s speed and other factors.”
