Memorial Day In Arlington: What You Need To Know

Here's how the town will observe Memorial Day, plus a list of what's open and closed.

ARLINGTON, MA – Memorial Day is Monday, May 28. In the weeks leading up to the annual remembrance, Arlington volunteers have been placing flags on veterans' graves at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.

9:30 a.m. Memorial Day Ceremony at Town Hall (doors at 9:00am)

This year's keynote speaker is Marine Corps Lt. Col. Michael Strobl. Strobl escorted a fallen Marine to
his hometown in Wyoming for his internment, which the film Taking Chance is based on. Immediately
following the official ceremony, there will be wreath laying ceremonies for veteran burial lots at Mt.
Pleasant Cemetery.

What's Open And Closed On Memorial Day

The holiday also means government offices and some businesses will be closed. Before you head out, check our list of what's open and closed on the holiday.

  • Retail stores: Open at owner's discretion
  • Subway, buses: Sunday schedule
  • Supermarkets: Open
  • Convenience stores: Open
  • Bars: Open
  • Banks: Closed
  • Basically anything to do with municipal government: Closed
  • Libraries, see above: Closed
  • Schools: Closed
  • Mail: Express delivery only
  • Trash/recycling collection: Delayed one day. Monday pickup on Tuesday, Tuesday pickup on Wednesday, etc., ending with Friday pickup on Saturday.
