Arlington Teachers Of The Year Announced
This year the Arlington Education Foundation's Star program raised over $22,000.
ARLINGTON, MA – Two Arlington teachers were recently awarded Teacher of the Year through the Arlington Education Foundation's Star program. Each year the Star teacher appreciation program recognizes teachers by awarding Star certificates, a donation to the foundation in the teachers' names. The teachers with the most Star certificates are awarded Teacher of the Year.
The 2018 Teachers of the Year are Heather Mahoney, a sixth-grade English teacher at Ottoson Middle School and JV soccer coach, and Arlington High School drama teacher Michael Byrne. Byrne, who directs the high school's theatrical productions, was also a co-recipient of an AEF Innovations in Education grant to fund the Unity Public Art Project last fall.
This year nearly 800 AEF Star certificates were awarded, recognizing teachers and staff in every school across the district and raising $22,081 for the foundation.
