Arlington Tree Removal To Resume Thursday Night

The DPW will remove 11 trees on Mass. Ave.

ARLINGTON, MA – The Arlington Department of Public Works will remove 11 trees on the south side of Massachusetts Avenue this week. Work will take place between Jason and Pleasant Streets this Thursday around midnight, June 7 into Friday morning, June 8.

Work was slated for last week but was postponed. The trees were damaged by gas leaks in the area, which National Grid has since repaired. The DPW is working with National Grid to fund the replanting of the trees.

Traffic will remain open and a police detail will be on-site to direct vehicles. Work is expected to take one night to complete but it will resume Friday night during the same time period if necessary.

The DPW removed a tree at Uncle Sam Park on the corner of Mass. Ave. and Mystic Street on June 1 because recent renovations permanently damaged its roots. Officials are looking at replacing the tree.
