Arlington ZBA Appeals State Decision, Controversial Mugar Project On Hold: Reports

The public hearing could be delayed for several months.

ARLINGTON, MA — It appears that the saga of the controversial Mugar housing development could be delayed for several months. According to multiple media reports, the Arlington Zoning Board of Appeals unanimously voted to appeal the state's decision that the town does not have affordable housing on 1.5 percent of the town's land.

The Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development (DCHD) ruled on Nov. 17 that the town had not "met its burden of proof" showing that affordable housing exists on 1.5 percent of the town's land.

The Arlington Advocate reports that the move to appeal the DCHD's decision could delay the public hearing up to eight months. The Commonwealth's Housing Appeals committee will hear the appeal, according to the Advocate.
