Arlington's 2016 MCAS Scores Announced

BREAKING: Here is how Arlington's students performed on the MCAS testing.

ARLINGTON, MA — The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has released its 2016 MCAS achievement results for the entire state.

As of 6 p.m. Monday, only Arlington's district-wide MCAS science, technology and engineering scores have been announced, but 79 percent of Arlington students scored proficiently or higher, an increase of four percentage points from 75 percent the previous year.

38 percent of Arlington's students had a score of advanced, with only 17 percent needing improvement and just 5 in the warning/failing category.

Once again, Arlington scored significantly higher than the state average, with just 54 percent of students statewide scoring proficiently or higher, and 17 percent of students achieving advanced scores statewide.

Here's a look at how Arlington's 10th graders scored in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science, Technology and Engineering:

  • English Language Arts: 95 percent proficient or higher(91 percent statewide), 68 percent advanced (47 percent statewide)
  • Math: 90 percent proficient or higher (78 percent statewide), 72 percent advanced (54 percent statewide)
  • Science, Technology and Engineering: 86 percent (73 percent statewide), 54 percent advanced (29 percent statewide)
