Avoid Holiday Package Thefts: Tips From Arlington Police

Police ask residents to help their neighbors protect against package thefts this holiday season.

ARLINGTON, MA – It's the most wonderful time of the year – especially for crooks looking to swipe presents from your front porch. The Arlington Police Department this week warned residents to be on the lookout for package thieves and help their neighbors protect against thefts this holiday season.

Here's how you can avoid falling victim to a package theft, according to the Arlington Police Department:

  • Request a signature. If you're shipping something of high value – or just want to be sure items aren't left unattended – you can require a signature for packages to be released.
  • Major shippers are working seven days a week during the holidays. Customize your deliveries on a day or during a time frame you plan on being home.
  • Track your packages online or redirect your packages to a safe location when they're on their way.
  • Consider an alternate destination, such as your workplace or a friend or neighbor who is home during the day.
