​Coming to a porch near you...Arlington's free, festive, one-day-only music extravaganza returns to our community in 2026! Arlington Center for the Arts is thrilled to be presenting Arlington Porchfest since 2016, where we have seen the event grow to over 300 performances throughout the day!


Since 2016 Arlington Porchfest has been uniting live music with community participation in a day-long celebration of the arts in Arlington. Porchfest is a grassroots music festival where bands play on front porches across town and people walk, bike or drive around to enjoy tons of free outdoor music, dancing, and visual art exhibits.

On Friday evening, May 22, 2026 at 8:00 PM, The Philharmonic Society of Arlington will present The Arlington-Belmont Chamber Chorus performing a concert entitled “Wild Wonders: Songs of Nature and Spirit”, at the First Parish Unitarian-Universalist Church, 630 Massachusetts Ave., Arlington, MA. 
Stephanie Beatrice, Music Director; Brandon Santini, accompanist.
The performance will feature works by Hagenberg, Batinis, and Walker, as well as a commissioned work by Ian Weiss; with featured text from Dickinson and the Bronte sisters.
General Admission: $20; Seniors/Adult Students: $15; Children under 17: $5. Tickets are purchased at the door. This venue is wheelchair accessible.
The Philharmonic Society of Arlington, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit community organization incorporating The Arlington Philharmonic Orchestra, The Arlington-Belmont Chorale, and The Arlington-Belmont Chamber Chorus. Commonwealth School Virtual Information Session for Fall 2027 Admission

Local filmmaker Roger Hagopian presents his documentary film, Memories Flow Beneath It, From Valley to Quabbin. This 69-minute film traces the displacement of people and the loss of a way of life in the Swift River Valley of western Massachusetts, when the Quabbin Reservoir flooded four towns in order to create water infrastructure for 52 Boston metropolitan communities. Several interviewees include former valley residents, historians, and authors, notably J.R. Greene, who has written numerous books on the subject.
The ever-westward evolution of the water systems begins with springs on the Shawmut Peninsula of Boston in 1630, an aqueduct from Jamaica Pond, the Cochituate System emanating from Natick, which became insufficient due to the mass immigration of refugees from the Irish Famine, thus drastically increasing Boston’s population. The Great Boston Fire of 1872 exposed the limitations of the water supply, leading to the Sudbury and Wachusett systems. Italian immigrants, some of whom were stonemasons, found work on these public works projects as the system expanded further. State House debates, Supreme Court decisions, and incredible civil engineering innovations, led to the creation of the Quabbin Reservoir.&nbsp;
Former Valley residents recall their rural agricultural and&nbsp;industrial villages, family life, and the years leading up to their expulsion. The cold processes of eminent domain and eviction caused lifelong trauma, especially for the elderly. Generations of history were demolished by 1938 and the people were not given housing and employment assistance by the state – they were on their own.Join the Friends of the Robbins Library for this free showing of the documentary and discussion with the filmmaker.

The Arlington Human Rights Commission invites the community to a talk and a conversation on the Declaration of Independence and its meaning for us today.
At&nbsp;Re-Examining Our Roots: The Declaration of Independence at 250, moderator Michael Kozuch, K-12 Director of Social Studies and History for the Arlington Public Schools, will present historical background on the Declaration and its continuing importance.
Break-out groups will then discuss key concepts in the Declaration and how they are relevant today.
Howard Winkler, former Arlington Historical Society President and past president of the Arlington Civil Rights Commission, will conclude with a tribute to Black Bostonian abolitionist Prince Hall, who argued that the Declaration’s assertion that “all men are created equal” applied to all Black people, and to whom a marker in the Black Masonic burial ground in Arlington is dedicated.
