<a href="http://www.planetfitness.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow">Planet Fitness</a>, one of the largest and fastest-growing franchisors and operators of fitness centers with more members than any other fitness brand, today announced it has awarded Liam Shadrick from Arlington, Massachusetts, its annual <a href="https://www.planetfitness.com/pf-purpose" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow">Judgement Free Generation&reg;</a> scholarship, which awards teens for continuously promoting inclusion, acceptance and kindness in their communities. Shadrick is going to Georgetown University this fall to study environmental science.
Fifty Boys &amp; Girls Club high school seniors nationwide each received a $5,000 scholarship and joined the JFG Squad, Planet Fitness' network of scholarship recipients. More than half of this year&rsquo;s Judgement Free Generation&reg; scholarship winners (58 percent) represent first-generation college students.&nbsp;
Planet Fitness has awarded nearly $2 million in scholarships to 380 teens across the country since 2017, contributing $250,000 this year alone. While many traditional scholarships award athletic or academic achievement, the Judgement Free Generation&reg; scholarship program was created to recognize youth who exemplify values of kindness and acceptance and actively promote those principles in their communities. The scholarship recipients were selected from a pool of hundreds of applicants using a multi-tiered review process based on several criteria including a personal essay, staff recommendations, and a video submission. The submissions were evaluated by how the participant actively promotes kindness and inclusion by demonstrating Judgement Free&trade; values.

Researchers at McLean Hospital are investigating factors that put young individuals at risk for depression. By participating, you and your child can help them better understand, prevent, and treat adolescent depression. Teens will answer questions about their thoughts and feelings. On Sunday, September 20th, Sudbury will host our third inaugural <a href="https://kids.pmc.org/sudbury" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Sudbury PMC Kids Bike Ride</a>.&nbsp;Our ride is a 1-mile loop that riders may enjoy as long as they would like. The one mile course is entirely paved and loops through the beautiful residential neighborhoods of historic Sudbury. Parents are welcome to ride with their children but it is not required. If a parent chooses to accompany their child on the bike, we ask that they register as volunteers.&nbsp;
Many kids choose to ride the loop 3-6-12 or even 15 times. We encourage riders to participate as long as they would like. We will have special badges for riders who accomplish 5-8-12 and 15 miles, too! Please indicate at registration an estimate of your rider's total distance (this will help us for event organization).&nbsp;There is also an enclosed parking lot loop all starting from Curtis Middle School in Sudbury, MA. (Adults may opt to register as volunteers if they would like to ride with the kids). Before the ride there will be music and bike decorating; during the ride and following there will be an Ice-Cream Truck, Food Truck, Coffee Truck, huge bouncy castle, lawn games, music and more. All registered riders will get a free ice cream from our friends at Trombetta’s Farm Ice Cream. Registration takes place from 8:30am-9:45am. The ride is from 10:00am-11:30am, and food and games will be available from 10:00am - 1:00pm.
“The Pan-Mass Challenge is a Massachusetts-based bike-a-thon that raises more money for charity than any other single athletic fundraising event in the country. Always held the first weekend in August, the PMC raises funds for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, a world leader in adult and pediatric cancer treatment and research. Each summer, thousands of riders and volunteers from 43 states and 12 countries participate in the PMC, all with a common goal: to find a cure for cancer.
100 percent of all rider-raised funds go directly to cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber and the Jimmy Fund. The PMC is Dana-Farber’s single largest supporter and is 62 percent of the Jimmy Fund’s annual revenue. Since 1980, the PMC has raised $972 million for Dana-Farber.”
The Sudbury PMC Kids Bike Ride empowers young participants to contribute to a meaningful cause while enjoying a fun activity. By offering multiple course options, every child will have the opportunity to participate and make a difference - regardless of age or ability. Each ride distance is carefully planned to be safe and enjoyable, with designated routes through historic Sudbury neighborhoods that are well-marked and closely monitored by volunteers. For the youngest participants, the tot lot loop provides a secure environment where kids can ride in a contained area - strollers, scooters, tricycles are ALL welcome!
Beyond the joy of bike riding, the Sudbury PMC Kids Bike Ride serves as a powerful educational experience for children, teaching them about the impact of collective efforts in fighting cancer. As they pedal for a purpose, they learn about empathy, community involvement, and the importance of supporting breakthroughs in treatment and cures at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. This event not only raises crucial funds for cancer research but also instills valuable life lessons in the young riders; collectively we all pedal towards a more cancer-free future. As with all PMC rides, every penny donated goes directly to cancer treatment and research at Dana-Farber.

Students may take courses toward the Certificate or on a class-by-class basis to fill professional education interests. For creatives and textile arts enthusiasts, SFD offers workshops in various fiber arts such as weaving, lace making, embroidery, millinery, upcycling, and more. As an SFD student, you will join a diverse community of emerging designers. Our studios are filled with recent high school graduates, students from nearby colleges enriching their education with fashion, and working professionals embarking on a new career path.
