Cyrus Dallin and the Sculptural Process: A Talk with Nick Batzell of Skylight Studios

Sculpture lecture at Cyrus Dallin Art Museum featuring Nick Batzell of Skylight Studios.

Sculptor Nick Batzell will lead an insightful discussion on Cyrus Dallin’s sculptural process at the Cyrus Dallin Art Museum at 7:00 P.M. on Monday, March 27, 2017. Batzell will discuss the clay modeling techniques and schools of thought that were employed by Cyrus Dallin and his contemporaries. He will also explore the saga of the Paul Revere monument in the context of the technical challenges Dallin faced when he was asked to modify his model six different times over the course of 57 years.

At a young age, Batzell’s interest in sculpture was inspired by seeing Dallin’s masterful public works in his hometown of Arlington, Massachusetts. Batzell studied sculpture at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York and works as an Apprentice Sculptor to Robert Shure at Skylight Studios in Woburn.

Reservations for this program are recommended. Tickets are $7 for museum members and $10 for non-members and can be purchased online at Dallin.org. Parking is available in the town lot behind the museum. Entrance to the Cutter Gallery on the lower level of the building is directly accessible from the parking lot.
