Dallin Museum Opens Art Contest
Arlington middle school students are invited to participate in event, part of the commemoration of the 150th anniversary of Dallin's birth.

Officials at the are inviting Arlington middle school students to participate in an art contest, part of several events to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Dallin’s birth.
A grand prize of $100 as well as other prizes will be awarded. The contest aims to encourage student creativity and artistic expression as well as bring greater awareness to Arlington students about the art and contributions of Cyrus Dallin and to increase community involvement at the Museum.

The contest will culminate with an exhibit of student artwork at the Cutter Gallery, in the lower level of 611 Massachusetts Ave., Arlington. The exhibit goes from May 5 through May 26 and will be followed by an awards reception at 2 p.m. on May 12.
Interested students in grades 6 through 8 are invited to visit the Museum anytime Wednesday through Sunday, noon-4:00 p.m., to view examples of Dallin’s work and draw inspiration for their own projects. Museum docents will answer questions and introduce students to the sculptures in the collection.

The mission of the Cyrus Dallin Art Museum is to advance the legacy of the celebrated American sculptor, Cyrus Dallin, who lived and worked in Arlington by collecting, preserving and exhibiting items related to the artist’s life and work, and by serving as a vital educational resource for the community of Arlington and beyond.
Since its founding in 1995, the museum’s collection has quadrupled and presently consists of more than 60 works of art including sculptures (freestanding and relief), medals, coins and paintings. Every year hundreds of visitors participate in a wide variety of lectures, tours, educational programs and special events.
The museum is open Wednesday through Sunday, noon-4 p.m., and admission is free. It is located at 611 Massachusetts Ave. in Arlington Center.
