Off-Duty Arlington Officer Honored by Boston Bruins

The officer administered CPR and AED services and saved a man's life on Oct. 14.

BOSTON—First responders from across the greater Boston area were honored by the Boston Bruins during First Responder’s Night at TD Garden.

While off-duty, Arlington police officer Michael Hogan administered CPR and AED services to a collapsed hockey player at Ed Burns Arena on Oct. 14. Responders were acknowledged throughout the game, with a photo montage on the video board, Zamboni rides, and the opportunity to high-five players as they took the ice.

“This is a fantastic event that showcases the hard work of so many first responders, especially Officer Hogan, who saved a man’s life through his quick thinking and training,” Chief Ryan said in a statement. “I commend Officer Hogan and all the first responders who are being honored tonight.”

Police officers arrived on scene on Oct. 14 to witness Hogan administering CPR to a man who had gone into cardiac arrest. Hogan was the only persosn at the arena who knew how to administer CPR.

Hogan was later given an AED from the rink’s lobby and rendered aid to the man until the Arlington Fire Department transported him to Lahey Hospital and Medical Center.

Unfortunately, the Bruins fell to the Columbus Blue Jackets by a score of 6-4.
