Wed. Sept. 18 – Nov. 6, 7pm-9:30pm plus three optional weekend times.
There is a free makeup class on Nov. 13.
We’ll practice how to listen to the essence of people’s stories and learn/practice several Playback forms. We’ll have fun with improv games and learn improv principles. Great for new students of Playback and special coaching for experienced students.
THE PLAYBACK ADVENTURES: The series also includes three optional, free Playback outdoor adventures, most likely on a weekend afternoon, in September, October, and November. We’ll go to a farmer’s market, park, street fair, or other public place, and offer “roving Playback.” True Story Theater has done this several times, including with students, and found it wonderfully easy and satisfying. We approach individuals (or 2-3 people who are together), explain we’re part of a theatre group, and invite them to share something important about their lives. Then perform a brief Playback of their story. Most often, the viewers are totally delighted! Then we move on to another location and approach another person… Generally we rove and play in small groups of 3-6 people for about an hour, then come together to debrief our experiences. You are welcome to come and just watch until you feel ready to join in. We hope to make “roving Playback” a regular monthly offering, for all past and present Playback students and practitioners who would like this chance to play.
Price: $120 for the whole series
All welcome: mixed level class–fine for new people to join
