Fundraiser Launched To Bring Fireworks To Arlington Town Night

The Arlington Elks Lodge will host Town Night this year after the event committee decided last fall it was too expensive.

ARLINGTON, MA – The Arlington Elks Club is breathing new life into Town Night this year, months after the Town Day Committee decided the event would be too expensive to hold. The Elks announced this month it would take on the mantle of hosting duties Sept. 14. Its event will consist of kids' activities, a live band and a movie screening.

Missing from the Town Night lineup? Fireworks.

Elks Club member Theresa Schanda told the Arlington Advocate the Elks couldn't "foot that bill" this year and are looking at potentially having fireworks at next year's event.

But a GoFundMe campaign has been launched to try and raise $8,500 to schedule a last-minute fireworks display. According to the fundraising page, the fireworks company is available on Sept. 14 and needs to be booked by next Friday, Aug. 31.

"For many of us, the fireworks on Town Night has been a big community builder - perhaps even more than Town Day," Katie Garrett, who started the campaign, wrote. "We can still make this family-favorite event happen!"
