Grandparents Day at Covenant School a Success [VIDEO, PHOTOS]
Parents and grandparents visit the school to hear about what the students are learning.
In an effort to help grandparents remain an active part in their grandchildren’s lives, held an open house day on Friday to show families what their youngest members are doing on a day-to-day basis.
“We have a good relationship with our grandchildren and try to keep it that way by participating in various activities," said Bruce Landers, who attended the event with his wife Susan. "We thoroughly enjoy doing it."
To kick off the day, the students held an assembly, during which they read poetry, sang songs and talked about what they were learning in class.

At one point during the presentation, any child who was having a birthday was called on stage where another student told a few interesting facts about them, while an adorable baby picture was displayed on the screen above. They were then presented with a birthday coupon which is good to use to get out of dress code for one day.
During the program the students ran and operated every aspect of production, from the soundboard to shared hosting duties.

“It helps build confidence and allows them to own it," said Jean Sicurella, who has four children at the school. "They have a commitment to be good."
prides themselves on the curriculum that they use, which follows an expeditionary learning process. This way of learning attempts to address academic standards through project-based curriculum connected through real world needs, said Victoria Landers, chair of the Parent Committee.
“When the first and second grade classes were learning about where food came from, they took a trip to an apple orchard to see that they grew from trees and then were made into applesauce," Landers said. "They also had a chance to study the soil."
