Help Light Up Arlington: Chamber Wants To Expand Holiday Lighting

The Arlington Chamber of Commerce is calling for donations and tree dedications to help light up the town.

ARLINGTON, MA — Remember last year's holiday lighting in Whittemore Park? Remember the display at the Jefferson Cutter House, and along Mass. Ave and Route 60? Now the folks who brought you those displays (the Arlington Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with the Town of Arlington) want to go even bigger.

"Together we can create a beautiful lighting display in Arlington Center and provide a source of pride and joy for our residents, businesses, and visitors," reads an announcement on the chamber's website. The Chamber is also taking donations to dedicate trees to be lit year round.

The expansion comes after Arlington's recent cultural district designation, Bob Sprague on YourArlington first reported.

"Improving the holiday lighting in this area will draw attention to the adjacent businesses and delight residents and visitors," said the Chamber's executive Beth Locke in a press release on the community website.

Now all they need is the funding: About $25,000. Locke said that while the town is expected to contribute toward the project again this year, the Chamber needs the rest of the community, businesses and individuals, to chip in to expand the project to Broadway Plaza and Memorial Park.

"We discovered that community fund-raising for lighting is very common in our neighboring towns and throughout the country," she said, YourArlington reported.

Lock said she was optimistic and told Patch they'll be collecting donations throughout the season.
