McAleer to Compete in Miss Massachusetts’ Outstanding Teen Pageant

The 13th Miss Massachusetts' Outstanding Teen 2012 Pageant is March 31

 

Katie McAleer of Arlington will be competing in the 13th annual Miss Massachusetts’ Outstanding Teen Pageant on Saturday, March 31, at 6 p.m. at the Keith Middle School in New Bedford. The theme of this year’s show is “The Edge of Glory!”

McAleer is the 17-year-old daughter of Diane and Robert McAleer of Arlington. She is an 11th grade student at  where she has maintained honor roll status for three years and has a GPA of 3.76. She received a silver medal for scoring 96 percent of a national Mythology exam and has been accepted into the Harvard VISIONS program. She is a Dean's Assistant, a Guidance Assistant and a member of the Students Against Destructive Decisions club. In her free time, she volunteers for many outside charitable organizations and events. For her talent, Katie will perform a Lyrical Dance to Happy. Her platform issue is Leadership Through Volunteerism – Yes, you CAN make a Difference!

The pageant features Sydney Rachael Levin-Epstein, of Longmeadow, Miss Massachusetts’ Outstanding Teen 2011 and 20 beautiful, intelligent and talented teenagers from across the Commonwealth. They will compete for scholarship money and the opportunity to represent Massachusetts at the Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Pageant in Orlando, FL in August.  

The show will feature performances by Levin-Epstein as well as Miss Massachusetts 2011 Molly Whalen. This year, pageant directors Donna Klamkin and Valarie Lacasse are pleased to announce that Lauren Worden has come on board as the new pageant choreographer. Worden has 23 years of dance experience and has been teaching dance for 13 years in the Southcoast area. She also organized an All- City Select Dance Ensemble for New Bedford Public Schools. Lauren currently owns and directs Illusions Academy of Dance, Inc. in New Bedford and teaches creative movement and dance for the New Bedford Public Schools.

The pageant is the official state preliminary for the Miss America’s Outstanding Teen program.  The mission of the MAOTeen organization is to promote scholastic achievement, creative accomplishment, healthy living and community involvement for America’s teens. The competition is open to young ladies 13-17 years of age, and they will be judged on personal interview, talent, scholastic achievement, evening wear and onstage question and lifestyle and fitness.
