Local Author Mary Rowen Launches Pubslush Campaign for New Novel, GRUNGE

When Arlington writer Mary Rowen published her first novel, LIVING BY EAR, she learned how difficult—and expensive—it can be for a new indie author to publicize a book. That’s why she’s trying to garner some advance publicity and generate some funds by running a Pubslush campaign for her new novel, GRUNGE. Pubslush is a crowdfunding platform (like Kickstarter, but exclusively for books).

“GRUNGE is a story I’ve been working on—in my head and on paper—since 1994,” says Rowen. “And although it’s not autobiographical in any way, it’s a very personal project for me, as I was bulimic for about fifteen years, and I really wanted to write an honest story about a character with that disease.”

But GRUNGE is not just a book about eating disorders. It's a dark, new-adult story about a lonely girl/woman named Erin who takes comfort in fantasizing about rock stars like Jim Morrison, David Bowie, Bruce Springsteen and Elvis Costello. Which is fine until she begins to actively pursue relationships with these men. Of course, things don't tend to go the way she plans. Then Erin meets a man she believes is a supposedly dead grunge icon who may have faked his death, and he invites her to embark on a road trip with him. That's when Erin's world really begins to change.

Rowen is hoping to publish GRUNGE in January, and anyone interested in reading an excerpt, seeing some images, or watching a video about GRUNGE can visit http://grunge.pubslush.com

And if you'd like to become part of this project by making a contribution—and there are some cool prizes and incentives for people who do this—Ms. Rowen would be forever grateful.
