Menotomy Beer and Wine Granted Full Liquor License

All three beer and wine vendors in Arlington will now be package liquor stores.

The owners of appeared before the at Monday night’s meeting to request an all alcohol package store license. The board unanimously approved Neil Duggan and Beth Bergstrom’s request. The store will begin selling liquor in the next few weeks.

“Thank you, thank you, thank you,” Duggan said emphatically after the decision. “Don’t ever mess with a good thing,” he added with a laugh.

After the decision at Monday night’s meeting, all three beer and wine vendors in Arlington . Giles Fine Wine and have both applied for and received full liquor licenses.

This decision has been a long time coming for Duggan who campaigned hard at Town Meeting for of , which authorized the Board of Selectmen to issue hard liquor licenses to the town’s beer and wine vendors. In the November Town Election, Arlington residents  (65 to 34 percent) in the favor of the measure.

Upon hearing the results on Election Night, Menotomy Beer and Wine owner Neil Duggan was “pumped.”

“We needed this one so bad,” he said. “We expect our sales will go up over 30 percent.”

At Monday night’s meeting, Selectman Clarissa Rowe told Duggan and his business partners she appreciated their involvement in Arlington town politics.

“As a new client of business, we need people in town meeting to be standing up the way you did,” Rowe said.

Selectmen John Hurd also thanked the owners for their inolvement in the community, after putting on such events such as the and the this past month.  

“We set aside detailed reqirements for these liscenses and you have fullfillied them and more,” Hurd said. “Menotomy has supported causes in town that couldn’t function without you.”

Chairman Diane Mahon said the board will be updating all alcohol licenses in the next year, adding restrictions and inclusions as necessary. She invited owners Duggan and Bergstrom, along with the other beer and wine vendors in town, to attend that meeting.
