More Alcohol-Serving Restaurants Could Be Coming to Arlington

Arlington Town Meeting Members initiated a process Wednesday that could add five more alcohol-serving restaurants in town.

Members passed a warrant article, 187-22, which now has to pass the state legislature and then a town-wide vote next April, before the five additional all-alcohol licenses for restaurants become a reality.

Arlington currently has 15 all-alcohol licenses, all of which are in use (or will be in use, like Common Ground).

With the licenses maxed out, the Board of Selectmen looked into adding more after an Arlington chef, who owns restaurants in Boston and Somerville, approached the board about opening a restaurant in town, according to Selectman Diane Mahon.

On Wednesday, Town Meeting Members recalled the transformation from Arlington as a dry town to now, a town known for its restaurants.
