Obituary: Carole Lawton, of Arlington

Carole Zabriskie Lawton -- Carole’s death on Thursday, Aug. 14, has saddened all whose lives she touched. Her family and friends grieve her sudden passing. For over 39 years, she was equally appreciated by students and faculty members of Harvard and Northeastern universities, where she cherished her contributions to students and their well-being.

Born on Sept. 13, 1945 in Nyack, New York, Carole grew up in Park Ridge, New Jersey. She attended Syracuse University and The New England Conservatory, respectively earning a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in organ performance. Carole met her husband David while both were pursuing their love of music at N.E.C. For the past 44 years, they lived in Cambridge and then Arlington. Mrs. Lawton is survived by her husband, David; son, Jared; grandson, Ollie; sister, Jo-Ellen; and brother David.

A memorial mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 21, at the Church of St. Paul, Cambridge. The family requests that any gifts be directed to Carole’s preferred charities: Robbins Library of Arlington and the Boston Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.
