Charles J. Ahern, of Arlington, died Tuesday, Sept. 9.
Beloved husband of the late Helen C. (Hallisey) Ahern, and brother of the late Thomas and Robert Ahern and Ruth Shannon. He is survived by his sons Charles and wife Sandra of Marietta, Georgia, Robert and wife Kathleen of Arlington, and Marty and wife Lisa of Seattle. In addition, he is survived by four grandchildren: Jennifer, Carol Ann, Jane and Peter Charles.

Charlie graduated Boston College in 1942. He was a WWII U.S. Marine veteran serving as a captain in the 4th Division, F Company, 2nd Battalion, 23rd Regiment. He earned a Silver Star for conspicuous gallantry on Iwo Jima as well as receiving two Purple Hearts for wounds sustained on both Tinian and Iwo Jima. He was a longtime member of the U.S. Customs service and also a member of the Lexington Golf Club.
Visiting hours are on Friday, Sept. 19, from 4-8 p.m. at the DeVito-O’Donnell Funeral Home, 1145 Mass. Ave., ARLINGTON. Funeral from The DeVito-O’Donnell Funeral Home Saturday morning, Sept. 20, at 9 with a funeral mass at 10 in St. Camillus Church and burial with military honors to follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
