Obituary: Dr. Robert Carey, Arlington Physician

Carey died Thursday, Nov. 6. He was 85.

The following is from Keefe Funeral Home.

Dr. Robert J. Carey, 85, of Arlington, passed peacefully at his home with his family at his side.

Bob Carey leaves his high school sweetheart and wife of 60 years, Mary E. Carey, his sister Barbara Carey of Brookline Station, Missouri, his five children and 12 grandchildren: Robert J Carey Jr., his wife Jennifer Davis Carey and their children Michael and wife Amanda of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Christopher and Helena of Worcester; Rosemary McGinty, her husband Brian McGinty and their children James and Kelly of Woodstock, Vermont; Kathleen Carey, her husband Donald Westwater and their children Emma and Jed of Carlisle; Richard Carey, his wife Theresa Carey and their children Kimberly, Stephen and Mitchell of Andover; John Carey, his wife Lisa Baldez and their children Joseph and Samuel of Hanover, New Hampshire. His beloved sister Rose Carey predeceased him.

Dr. Carey was a devoted husband, brother, father and grandfather as well as a caring physician to the Arlington community for 50 years. He also enjoyed numerous trips to South America along with his dear friend, Father Bob Thomas, devoting his time, medical skills and compassion to the needy in Bolivia, Ecuador and Peru. Bob Carey will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his family, his patients and their families, and the many people whom he loved and served with selfless dedication.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial visitation on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at Keefe Funeral Home, 5 Chestnut St., Arlington. A funeral mass will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Eulalia Church, 50 Ridge St., Winchester.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Stella-Rosie Foundation (1263 Westford St., Carlisle, MA 01741), which provides education and a home to orphaned children in Uganda, or to Family Unity International (12750 Stephen Place, Elm Grove, WI 53122-1964), which provides three meals a day and education to children in Quito, Ecuador.
