Obituary: Richard Pontes, of Arlington

Richard John Pontes, 82, of Arlington, formerly of Cambridge, died Monday, Aug. 4, 2014.

Cherished husband of Margaret (Peggy Kelley) Pontes. Loving father and father-in-law of Patricia and David Haviland, Valerie and Dennis Coll, Regina Pontes and his late son Richard James Pontes. Devoted grandfather of Michael and Kathryn Haviland and Daniel and Elizabeth Coll. Beloved brother-in-law of Jim, Ray, Ruth, Kathleen, Ellen, Christine, Virginia and the late Mary, Tom, Franny, Audrey and George. Dear son of the late Mary (Costa) and Manuel Pontes of Cambridge.

Visiting hours at Rogers & Hutchins Funeral Home, 292 Mass. Ave., Arlington, Saturday, 8:30-10:30 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at 11 at St. Eulalia’s Church, 50 Ridge St., Winchester. Burial in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Arlington.

Richard proudly served his country during the Korean War as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army. Lifetime member of the Disabled Veterans of America and the Arlington Lodge of Elks. Retired employee of the U.S. Postal Service.
