Ottoson Teaching Assistant Collapses in Classroom, Dies Later

Ottoson Middle School family copes with death of Paul DiGiovanni.

Paul DiGiovanni, a special education teaching assistant at , died Friday morning after , Arlington Public Schools officials said.

In a statement, Superintendent Kathleen Bodie said trained staff performed CPR on DiGiovanni while he waited to be transported to Leahy Clinic, where he eventually died.

“This is a great loss for the Ottoson community,” Bodie said in a statement. “Our heartfelt sympathy is extended to his family.”

In the statement, Bodie also said Ottoson Middle School will be open on Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon, for students to meet together or to speak with a counselor.

Details on a memorial service have not been released.
