PHOTOS: Arlington Baby in Guardians of the Galaxy Costume Sets Internet Ablaze

5-month-old Charlie Lockwood of Arlington and his attire got people talking across the country this week.

ARLINGTON, MA — When Arlington resident David Lockwood and his wife Tracie Lockwood-Santiago decided to dress their five-month-old son Charlie up as "baby Groot" from Guardians of the Galaxy at Comic Con in Boston this past weekend, they did not expect their son to become an internet sensation.

"I figured it would be the cutest picture that three of my friends took," said Lockwood, a regular at Boston Comic Con and the owner of Comicazi Comic Shop in Davis Square. "I thought my friends or the few people that saw it might think it was cute."

Lockwood said that what happened next caught him completely by surprise. A Boston Globe photographer snapped a photo of little Charlie in his costume which was later shared by 'Guardians' director James Gunn on Facebook.

Charlie played the part as well. According to Lockwood, Charlie's squirmy nature bore a striking resemblance to the 'Guardians' character.

"He can't do things on his own yet, but if you hold him he squiggles," added Lockwood."It looked a lot like 'baby groot.'"

After Gunn shared the photo, national outlets such as Entertainment Weekly and Buzzfeed began to pick up the story. This isn't the first time Charlie has showed his costume-wearing skills, as his parents photograph him monthly in a different type of costume.

A little pair of pants, a onesie, a baby's hat and some strips of fabric were all that were needed to send the internet into a frenzy.

"We always try to do something fun," Lockwood told Patch."In a number of pictures, he's been in some type of costume. It's not really an elaborate costume."

Lockwood added that the response from the photo was overwhelmingly positive, but he wasn't sure how Charlie would react seeing these photos years later.

"Will he be embarrassed when he's older? Probably like everyone is when they see pictures of them self when they are a baby," Lockwood added."As far as I'm concerned, the overwhelming result has been positive."

As for a direct shout out from Gunn?

"We're still waiting," said Lockwood.
