Pub Seeking Special Permit To Move Into Former Five And Dime
A 61-seat restaurant and bar is planned for the former Balich 5 & 10 site on Mass. Ave.
ARLINGTON, MA — A new restaurant and tavern eyeing the former Balich 5 & 10 space on Mass. Ave. will go before the Redevelopment Board next week. The Heights Pub is seeking a special permit to be exempt from certain parking regulations, according to YourArlington. The meeting will be held Monday, Sept. 9 at 8 p.m.
Jim O'Rourke, who operates First House Pub in Winchester, has leased the space at 1314 Mass. Ave. The restaurant will have 46 seats and a 15-seat bar, a takeout area, pizza oven and salad section, YourArlington reported. It is expected to serve comfort and pub food, as well as American fare.
Balich 5 & 10, a family-run five-and-dime, closed in June of 2018 after 64 years.
