Pussyhat project

I have a sewing school in Arlington. We have been Making Pussyhats to donate to the Women's March. So far, we have made 537 hats.

I own Laura's Sewing School in Arlington. I teach most of the classes for ages 9+. When I found out about the Pussyhat project, I wanted to participate. Due to Arthritis, I cannot walk or stand for long periods of time. But, I can sew, and coordinate sewing parties at my school. Starting barely 2 weeks ago, I bought my first piece of fleece and made 15 hats. A few days later, a couple of my students got together and we starting making more. When we were done with that batch, we had 75 hats. Last Sunday, we had another hat making party, and I cut 180 more hats. We had them done within 3 days. Yesterday, I cut 220 more! When these are all sewn, we will have made 537 Pussyhats! Since we are listed on pussyhatproject.com as a pickup location, people, who are going to one of the marches, have been stopping by and picking up hats for their family and friends. It's great to hear their stories. And, it feels wonderful to be able to contribute to these events.

We have one more Hat making party scheduled for Monday, January 16th, 1pm onward. We plan to finish the remaining hats that are cut. And, if we receive more donations toward materials, we will sew those into hats, too. Each yard of fleece yields 10 hats! If you'd like to join us on Monday, we would love to have the help. You don't even need to know how to sew. We need people who can do some pinning, and marking lines for hems. And, refreshments are always welcome, too.

If you want a hat, we are giving them to whomever is marching. Our hours are listed on our website and our Facebook page. We hope to see you soon!
