Red Line: Alewife to Harvard Square Service Temporarily Suspended This Weekend

ARLINGTON, MA—Are you planning to travel to Boston this weekend? You're going to want to avoid the Red Line.

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority announced Tuesday that the Red Line service between Alewife and Harvard Stations will be suspended on Saturday and Sunday due to "critical track maintenance work." Buses will replace the service in both directions.

"The Red Line track from Harvard to Alewife sits on concrete slabs floating on rubber disks that absorb noise and vibration from trains," the statement read."Years of water infiltration into the tunnel has resulted in corrosion and cracking that must be addressed in order to maintain safe and reliable Red Line service."

Shuttle Bus service will be available at the Alewife, Davis, Porter and Harvard stops.
