Report: Arlington's Scoop N Scootery Opening Delayed

The ice cream parlor is moving into a brick and mortar location, according to Wicked Local Arlington.

ARLINGTON, MA—Standard and minor delays are postponing the opening of The Scoop N Scootery ice cream parlor in Arlington.

Wicked Local Arlington reported Tuesday that the East Arlington parlor is facing standard and minor delays while they ensure that their equipment meets health codes. The ice cream parlor located at 112 Massachusetts Avenue was approved on Jan. 25 by the board of selectmen.

Owner Austin Crittenden said the company is facing standard delays to make sure all of the equipment meets health code.

Moving into a storefront has been a learning experience for him and The Scoop N Scootery staff, but one that he was prepared for.

“We didn’t expect to hit a home run after the first inspection but now that we have a clear idea of what we need, it’s just a matter of time before we go for our second inspection,” he said.

Crittenden said the biggest delay is welding that needs to be done to prep tables and he expects to be completed by the end of this week.

“Of course we want to get in the store as soon as possible but nothing is more important than making sure everything is in compliance with code,” he said.

He couldn’t speculate on an opening date, but he expects to be open once the health department passes them.

“The health department has been incredibly helpful and accommodating throughout this process and all changes we had to make after our inspection are very reasonable,” he said.

According to the website, The Scoop N Scootery has a delivery radius of 2.5 miles, and delivery time is between 45 minutes and 1 hour. The delivery minimum is $10, and the delivery fee is $1.50.

The price of a sundae is between $7 and $9. The signature sundae menu consists of 15 flavors and 35 toppings. All of the ice cream will be purchased from Richardson’s Farms, and no ice cream will be made in house.
