Residents Weigh in on Override, Service Cuts

Vision 2020 presented the results of its annual survey at Monday night's meeting. In this year's survey, asked residents how they would prefer the town to handle its . Arlington currently faces a $4 million deficit for FY2011 and a projected $6.5 million deficit for FY2012.

The survey asked residents to examine potential service cuts across various town departments. Voters could chose between making full cuts, administering a three-year or five-year override or implementing the "Pay As You Throw" (PAYT) program and using the savings from trash collection fees to fund town services.

Residents also weighed in on to the , , , and the . Across the board, the residents who responded favored an override-based solution (either a three or five year override) over full cuts to town services or the PAYT program remedy. In all questions asked, the "Make Full Cuts" option never gathered the majority of votes.  

The complete Vision 2020 survey will be available online soon. The override vote is set for June 7 and residents will receive the official ballot questions the first week of May.
