Robbins Library Hosts Director Amy Geller at Film Screening
Screening of film "The Guys Next Door" followed by a discussion with the director, Amy Geller

The Robbins Library will host a special screening of the documentary The Guys Next Door, directed by Amy Geller and Allie Humenuk, followed by a discussion with Cambridge-based director Amy Geller on Thursday, August 8.
The Guys Next Door is an intimate portrait of a real “Modern Family.” The film introduces Erik and Sandro, a gay married couple whose friend Rachel is a surrogate for their two daughters. Rachel, who is in her 40s, is married to Tony and they have three children. Together, they form a unique extended family. In 2016 the film won the Middlebury New Filmmakers Festival's VTeddy Audience Award for Feature, and the Woods Hole Film Festival Audience Award for Best Documentary Feature.
Librarian Rob Lorino says “we're thrilled to host director Amy Geller and screen the documentary The Guys Next Door.” Lorino adds, “Queer people tend to be familiar with nontraditional and chosen families, and this film will feel familiar to a lot of queer folks that have gone through, or thought about going through, a process to create a family like the one Erik and Sandro did. It will also provide a peek into the lives of a family whose structure is unfamiliar to a lot of people, and really help to re-define what a family can look like for everyone."
