Three-Day Greek Festival This Weekend

The St. Athanasius Church's annual festival has no admission fee.

Today is Wednesday, May 29. Here are five things you need to know.

1.) St. Athanasius Church’s annual three-day Greek Festival is this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, May 31-June 2.

There will be food, such as baklava, moussaka and lamb and pork on the spit, dancing, entertainment, ethnic artifacts and wares. The festival, at the corner of Appleton Street and Mass. Ave., goes from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. It’s handicapped accessible, and for more information, call 781-646-0705.

2.) Coming off an 11-7 regular season, the 18th-seeded Arlington Catholic boys’ lacrosse team opens tournament play at No. 15 Whittier Tech (14-6) at 5 p.m. today in the Division 3 East bracket.

3.) An off-duty Arlington police officer rescued an elderly woman Tuesday evening from a burning residence on Webster Street. Read more.

4.) A Level III sex offender from Roxbury pleaded guilty Tuesday, May 28, to strangling Jewell Allsop, a 48-year-old Arlington woman, in 2009, according to a release from the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office. Read more.

5.) Showers and thunderstorms might roll through town today, according to the National Weather Service.
