Tour Beijing With Arlington High's Bo Yu

Mandarin teacher offers a free photo tour of his homeland to Arlington community.

Touring Beijing can be an expensive and time-consuming endeavor. But in just an hour in March, Arlington High School Mandarin teacher Bo Yu will take you there for free.

Yu has been teaching at AHS since the beginning of the year, introducing students to Chinese history and culture. He is also working with Ottoson Middle School and elementary school students.

On March 7, Yu will take Arlingtonians on a photo tour of Beijing from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Arlington High School’s Media Center. He will talk about his hometown’s rich history and culture using photographs to bring the sites to Arlington.

Schools officials have said he has “quickly become a well-loved and respected teacher at all levels.”

Yu, a native of Beijing, holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Language from Capital Normal University of China. Since 2008, he taught English at Beijing No. 4 High School, which has more than 2,100 students and is one of the most prestigious high schools in China, since 2008.

In addition to the English Language courses that he has been teaching there, he conducts elective courses on Chinese traditional culture and Beijing tourism.
