Pumpkin recycling in the Arlington Public Schools has been an annual event for five years now.

We partner with one of the food scrap subscription companies that do business in town. Green Teams help lead their schools in collecting pumpkins on a specific day just after Halloween, and the truck picks them up, takes them to a farm, and they are mixed with other organic materials and made into rich, soil-healthy compost!
Ask you school when pumpkin recycling is this year.

If you don't have kids in the schools, please do one of the following:
- compost your pumpkin with your food scrap diversion service
- compost your pumpkin in your backyard compost system- add lots of carbon!
- secure your pumpkin as trash on trash collection day- it cannot be "recycled" like bottles and cansm nor can it go with yard waste- that's not allowable.
- please do not place your pumpkin in the Feed FiDO program, as there is just not enough room and they can wreak havoc!
By the way, this applies to all decorative gourds as well, but if they have paint on them then please make sure they go in the trash.
Happy Halloween all!
