Town To Take Over Ice Rink

Board approves article to take over operations at Veteran's Memorial Ice Rink.

The Board of Selectmen approved a warrant article last night to allow the town to take over  Veteran's Memorial Rink. The town has already invested more than $1 million into renovating the facility. Improvements are 80 percent complete, and the town will look to change some operation procedures and fees to help the rink run more efficiently.

"This is really tremendous,"  said Selectman John Hurd at last night's meeting. "I have to commend the job they've done."

Hurd said that the rink will partially fund itself through user's fees and ice rental costs, which should make up for approximately $500,000.

Hurd explained that if the facility is well-maintained, its rental fees will cover the town's expenses and improvements to the rink.
