Two Teens Arrested on Robbery, Aggravated Assault Charges: Police

Two teenagers, including one from Arlington, were arrested on charges of unarmed robbery and aggravated assault.

ARLINGTON, MA—Two teenagers were arrested Thursday night and Friday morning in connection with a robbery which occurred last Friday, Arlington police announced Friday.

The teenagers, both 16, of Arlington and Revere, were arrested on charges of juvenile delinquent to wit unarmed robbery (joint venture); as well as aggravated assault and battery resulting in serious injuries (joint venture). According to police, detectives reviewed surveillance video and credit card statements and were able to connect the teenagers to the robbery.

Arlington Police Chief Frederick Ryan lauded the work of his department as well as the Cambridge, Revere, and Natick police departments for their assistance in the investigation.

"The unprecedented level of teamwork and cooperation that exists among municipal law enforcement agencies here in Massachusetts helps ensure that suspects who run cannot hide for long," Chief Ryan said. "I am very grateful for the hard work of our officers and neighboring departments in bringing these two juveniles into custody after a violent crime struck our community."

Police responded to a man lying unconscious in the street shortly after midnight Saturday, and discovered that the victim had sustained a serious injury to his right eye, according to the announcement. The man was transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center for serious injuries, which are not believed to be life-threatening.

Subsequent investigation revealed that the victim was walking in the area of Broadway and Foster streets Friday night, when he was approached behind by a juvenile male on a bicycle, according to police. An argument ensued, and the juvenile assaulted the victim. The two suspects took the victim's canvas bag, which contained his wallet and credit cards.

Police say that the Arlington suspect was located and arrested Thursday evening, and the Revere suspect was arrested Friday morning. Both suspects will be arraigned at a juvenile court at a later date.
