Week in Review

This week was a pivotal one in Arlignton, as Town Meeting members tackled four significant articles in  on Monday. 

After debating the issue since the summer, Town Meeting members voted how to rectify the school district's $1.5 million budget deficit. Town Meeting members voted almost unanimously to move $1.7 million from the school district's FY2011 budget to the FY2010 budget to close the deficit. The town will use a cash reserve which aims to plug the gap by taking $377,589 from several budgets, including the Tip Fee Stabilization Fund, which is used for trash collection

Special Town Meeting also approved the budget for the  and construction at . The Town also authorized the legislation that will enable the health care provider Group Insurance Commission health insurance related benefits to town employees, retirees and their dependents. 

The Town also paused this week to honor former Town Meeting member and Minutemen captain . Town Meeting members had a moment of silence to remember his contributions to Arlington over the years and the flag at flew at half-mast in his honor.
