Yard Waste Collection Resumes This Week

The town also has discounted compost bins available.

Today is Monday, April 8. Here are five things you need to know.

1.) From the town: Yard Waste Collection Resumes This Week: The town’s weekly collection of yard waste resumes this week on your regular trash/recycling day.

The same rules apply to all waste categories: place at the curb no sooner than 6 p.m. on the day prior to your collection day and no later than 7 a.m. on the scheduled pick-up day. Yard waste left on the curb outside of these hours will be subject to a fine. Tree branches must be 3 feet or shorter and under 1 inch thick. Branches may be bundled and tied but must weight under 50 pounds. No stumps or root balls of any size will be collection.

2.) From the town: Discounted Compost Bins Available: An alternative to placing yard waste out for curbside collection is to compost leaves and lawn waste on your property, using the resulting finished compost as a soil amendment under shrubs and trees and in gardnes. Compost not only nourishes your plants but also holds moisture in the ground during the hot months, reducing the need to water. New age compost bins are available for sale at DPW for a discounted price of $40 while supplies last. For additional information on these bins, visit arlingtonma.gov/recycle.
