Update: Attleboro Acting Police Chief in Motor Vehicle Accident
Kyle Heagney, Attleboro's acting police chief, was in a motor vehicle accident in his hometown of Norton just before 5 p.m. today.
Acting Attleboro Police Chief Kyle Heagney was in a motor vehicle accident just over the border in Norton just before 5 p.m. today.
The unmarked city-owned police vehicle driven by Heagney was struck by an elderly man who was pulling out of Sears Burner Service, located at 376 Old Colony Rd. in Norton, Norton Police Lt. Todd Jackson said.
Both drivers are fine, but the elderly driver, Robert Lipsett, 76 of North Attleboro, was cited for failure to use care and caution.

"He was test driving a vehicle from a dealership up the road," Heagney said after the accident had been cleared. "He hit the gas instead of the brake and took off like a rocket and his vehicle struck my car, then hit a white pickup, a Cadillac and a Chevy."
"Thank God no one was hurt," he added.

Lipsett's car hit Heagney's car before striking an additional three other parked vehicles. There was damage to the front of Lipsett's car and damage to the rear of the car on passenger side of Heagney's car. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
