RI Man Pleads Guilty To Robbing Attleboro Stop & Shop

FALL RIVER, MA — A Rhode Island man pleaded guilty to robbing an Attleboro Stop & Shop the day after he robbed a Stop & Shop in his hometown of Pawtucket.

Evan Silveira, 42, was sentenced to five years supervised probation for the Attleboro robbery.

Prosecutors had asked for a sentence of two to four years in prison, according to a media release from the Bristol County District Attorney's Office.

Silveira was previously sentenced to six years in prison with nine months to serve for the Pawtucket heist, the release said.

On March 26, 2024, Silveira, clad in a surgical mask, gray sweatpants, "distinctive Nike Jordan brand sneakers" and a dark sweatshirt, walked up to the service desk of the 251 Washington St. Stop & Shop and showed a clerk a note "demanding money quickly," according to the release.

Silveira made his getaway in a Nissan Maxima with Rhode Island plates, the release said, but was pulled over two hours later by police in East Providence in an unrelated stop.

"Body worn camera from the stop revealed (Silveira) was in possession of money that he could not explain, a surgical mask and a notebook with white lined paper," according to the release. He was "also wearing the same clothing from the robbery."

The East Providence police let Silveira go free because the department had yet to receive the "be on the lookout" alert issued after the Attleboro robbery, the release said.

Police then linked Silveira to the Pawtucket Stop & Shop robbery from the day prior and obtained a warrant to search his home, according to the release.

The search turned up the "robbery note and clothing worn in both robberies," the release said, and Silveira, who was wearing the same "distinctive Nike Jordan brand sneakers," confessed to the Pawtucket crime but "indicated he could not remember the Attleboro robbery due to a substance abuse issue."
