Attleboro Businessman Steps Forward with Special Donation

Moved by an outpouring of support, an Attleboro business owner steps to the plate.

One man received a huge hug from a tearful Attleboro resident after she heard he had offered to donate the remaining funds needed for a special memorial.

At the end of John Bouchard's short speech about bringing a steel artifact from the World Trade Center to Attleboro, he reminded the crowd that the still needed funds for the memorial that is slated to be placed at Veteran's Memorial Triangle in

John Campbell quietly stepped to the plate to donate the remaining $2,500 needed for the POW/MIA 9/11 Remembrance Memorial.

"I said I didn't want this to be a fundraiser," a tearful Ellen Goodchild said to John Campbell as she wrapped her arms around him and thanked him. 

Goodchild and her husband Bill, who lost their daughter Lynn Catherine Goodchild on September 11, are members of the committee.

Campbell, the owner of Mr. Gutter on Washington Street in South Attleboro, was modest about his donation and asked only to see a picture of the proposed design. 

"It was just such an amazing thing to happen," said Committee Member Susan Blais. "I helped the committee over the past six years with the fundraising and its so hard to raise money."
