Attleboro DUI Suspect Assaulted Cops: Police

Police said Andrew Smyth was driving drunk when he crashed in Falmouth then assaulted police officers and a hospital security guard.

ATTLEBORO, MA — An Attleboro man was driving drunk when he collided with another vehicle in Falmouth this week then assaulted two officers, according to police. Andrew Smyth, 29, was charged with a host of crimes. The crash happened Tuesday at about 6 p.m. on Brick Kiln Road at Route 28 in Falmouth.

Smyth collided with a female driver who suffered a wrist injury, police said. As officers placed him under arrest, Smyth resisted and kicked one officer, police said. (Sign up for free daily newsletters and breaking news alerts from Attleboro Patch.)

Smyth was hospitalized for an evaluation.

"Mr. Smyth became uncooperative at the hospital and kicked a security guard," Falmouth police said in a statement. "While being placed in handcuffs to be transported to the police station he became combative. During the altercation one officer sustained a shoulder injury and another officer injured her wrist."

Smyth's bail was set at $1,040, his license was suspended and a temporary hold was placed on his vehicle, police said.

A 12 hour hold was placed on his vehicle and his license was suspended. His bail was later set at $1040.00 dollars. Smyth was charged with drunk driving, driving under the influence of drugs, having an open container of marijuana, negligent driving, two counts of resisting arrest, assault on a police officer, disorderly conduct, speeding and a stop sign violation.
