Entrepreneurs Bring Ancient Technique to Attleboro

The doors are open at DEMA Threading on County Street.

Phuntsho Dema and her fiance Fernando Penogos of Attleboro said there was a need to bring the ancient Chinese technique of eyebrow threading to Attleboro and quietly opened the doors to DEMA Threading on Saturday.

Threading has become a trend at hair salons, which provide hair removal services, because threading pulls the hair from the root and is less painful than waxing.

"Threading is an ancient technique of removing and shaping eyebrows," Penogos said. "My fiance Phuntsho is the professional, she's the expert with 18 years experience in this."

The technique originated in India and spread to the Middle East before American women became interested in it and beauticians like Dema began to offer it.

Dema and her soon-to-be husband were shopping around for the right location to open DEMA Threading and saw the opportunity once the space at 33 County St., next door to and , became vacant.

"We drove by the area and saw the location and immediately liked it," Penogos said.

The duo quickly began putting their own touches on the space to make it warm and friendly to clientele.

While threading is their specialty, they also offer the traditional way of hair removal–waxing.
