"Through the many trials and tribulations over the past several years, he has truly shown his ability to lead and show true leadership," Dumas said. "I have been impressed with his handling of many circumstances that should make all of us very proud."
"I have been told of many stories of Chief Heagney's late father, Capt. Walter Heagney, and how people respected him for his strong work ethic and dedication to his job," Dumas said. "I know that he is looking down and celebrating with us in spirit, as any proud father would do.

Heagney's mother, Dianne Heagney said that this was something that Kyle's father wanted, and Kyle has accomplished. "I'm so incredibly proud of all the hard work he's done and how he's risen through the ranks so quickly," she said.
Following the Chief's Oath, Heagney's son Connor pinned the "Chief" badge onto his dad's uniform, much to the delight of the crowd. Heagney then addressed the audience, thanking his fellow officers and thanking the mayor for entrusting him with the position of Chief of Police. "If it matters to the citizens of Attleboro, then it matters to me," Heagney said. "The citizens are the eyes and ears of the police force and I have the utmost respect for them."
Finally, holding back tears, Heagney thanked his wife Paula for all of her support throughout the years, and mostly for giving him the very best gift of all, his son.
