Attleboro High Girls' Basketball Team Falls to Mansfield
The tournament-bound Mansfield High girls' basketball team too much for Attleboro.
The Mansfield High girls basketball team beat Attleboro, 59-19, Friday night at home, dominating in rebounds, tips, steals and turnovers.
“We played our best game of the year,” Mansfield head coach Mike Redding said. “I thought Brockton was our best game, so we put two really good efforts in back to back.”

The game started slow, with Attleboro scoring only twice; once on a layup and once on a foul shot. Mansfield ended the period with 16 points, a full two-points every minute. Mansfield kept up their momentum and barely ever allowed Attleboro a rebound and stole and tipped passes to gain even more shot opportunities.
“It seemed like we had gotten a little too passive,” Redding said. “We talked about being more aggressive in the zone, getting tips, trying to get steals, instead of playing it safe, we [said] let’s take some chances and I think everybody did that. We got our hands on a lot of passes, a lot of blocks and created some turnovers.”

The second half was much the same as the first. Attleboro scored nine points in the first and 10 points in the second.
“Our team was inconsistent,” Attleboro head coach Missy Traversi said. “We didn’t have our type of work ethic that we’re usually accustomed to. It’s just not the way that Attleboro has played in the past, and the last few games, we’ve fought harder, worked harder, but we just folded tonight and didn’t play our style of basketball.”
Mansfield’s Kelly English led the Hornets in scoring with 17 points, followed by Kaitlyn McCarthy with 14 points and Michaela Bowes with 10 points. Janet Maher scored seven points, followed by Jessica Stoyle with six. Gina Stoyle scored three as did Victoria Shannon and Julie Campbell. Lauren Beecher added a point.
Attleboro’s Savannah Boyle and Brianna LaPlume each scored five points. Emily Mayer, Beth Clifton, Kerri Beland and Kirsten Terrien each scored for Attleboro. Sara Blackwell and Abby Oliver each scored on a foul shot.
The Hornets are now 10-3 in the league and 12-7 total. They play at Franklin next Tuesday. Attleboro is now 2-10 in the division and 3-16 in the league. They play King Philip at home on Tuesday.
