Attleboro Kids Turn Off TV to Dance with the Toe Jam Puppet Band

Local children's musicians create a toe-tapping good time for Attleboro kids.

Approximately 400 children and parents filled the atrium floor at in Attleboro to dance, wiggle and pop bubbles with the Toe Jam Puppet Band. 

Performers Vinny Lovegrove and Tom Poitras wasted no time getting the kids, ranging in age from 1 to 10, to get up and dance to silly songs. The show was interactive and pulled both children and parents to interact during songs. 

The Smith family of Attleboro had a toe-tapping good time, according to Jenn Smith, who watched her as her daughter, Emma Smith, 6, and son, Tyler, 9, danced, wiggled and laughed with band members. Several students who walked to the concert from the nearby also joined in the fun, ducking when the performers sprayed them with mist and jumping to pop bubbles.

The concert was organized by Education Consultant Andrea Witherell, who heard about the band's popularity with preschool and elementary school-age kids.

Witherell said there were two ideas behind the event: to hold a community-wide event and to get kids to turn off the television and move during school vacation week.

"This was a way to jump into the's Turn off the TV campaign," Witherell said.  

The event was made possible by the Attleboro Cultural Council which, for three consecutive years, has provided grant money to This year Project Connect received $600 in funds.

"We do more than 200 shows per year," Poitras said.
